No More Fake Smiles and Awkward Poses
Lees dit in het Nederlands If you take portraits of people, chances are you run into all kinds of trouble. People get uncomfortable, make crazy faces, or strike strange poses. Or you yourself might get uncomfortable because you think that you as a photographer need ’to do a lot’ to take authentic portraits. You don’t succeed right away and that can make you feel insecure. I’ve gone through all of this myself too and sometimes it still happens.
Learn From 12 Years of Experience and Mistakes
But over the past 12 years I’ve discovered so much that helps getting the real person out there and by taking good and authentic portraits, that I’ve made a course about it: The Authentic Portraiture Toolkit. And it is now available on two platforms, Skillshare en Udemy. On Skillshare I have six classes and on Udemy, The Authentic Portraiture Toolkit, is available too now.

What is The Authentic Portraiture Toolkit and for Whom?
Until now, my classes were mainly aimed at people in front of the camera. Often these people have camera shyness, like many of my clients. But this new course is for photographers! It is for professional landscape or still life photographers who want to start working with people. Who want to to go deeper than the well lit picture and who want to capture the real person in an authentic portrait. Secondly, the course is for the hobby photographer who wants to take better family pictures. And finally, if you would like to start a successful stock photography portfolio, I can help you on your way as well. Successful photos often look a lot different than what you might have thought.

Inside the Toolkit
I share my personal tools, the underlying starting points, my mistakes and stories from my practice as a portrait photographer. Also, the importance of truly connecting and creating rapport is discussed, as well as vulnerability and surrendering and of course creativity and play. Moreover, you’ll get tips on how to keep an eye on your boundaries and how you can explore them when working with people.
Because that’s what it is all about:
how do you take photos that are real,
authentic portraits that move people.
There are demonstrations and downloadable briefings you can use to brief your own clients and models. And there is a bonus checklist to print out before getting to work making authentic portraits. Furthermore, I talk about the success of some of my photos on Getty Images, one of which is not quite in focus and has a few other flaws, but is ‘very real’.
Because that’s what it is all about: how do you take photos that are real, authentic portraits that move people. I am always willing to answer questions you might get doing the exercises, because yes; you will be put to work right away!

The Course is not About Technique, but About all the People Stuff
To be clear: The Authentic Portraiture Toolkit dives into everything related to working with people. From the first moment of contact and sending the briefing, via determining the duration of the photographic encounter. To the reception in your studio with tasty snacks and drinks and the photo session or shoot itself (I also explain the difference between the two), I will teach you my approach and method.
There are already plenty of classes and tutorials out there on technique and lighting, focal point, iso etc. My method works with every technique. So whether you like it to be slick and perfect in the studio or more raw in the outdoors, my method of taking authentic portraits, works always .

This Portrait Photography Class is Now Available Online on Two Platforms
There are two options to take the course. If you are already on Skillshare and you have a premium account, you can watch it right away. If you don’t have an account yet and you would like to also gain access to an array of other, mostly creative, classes (from photography to mixed media and drawing, painting, Pro Create etc.) Luckily, I may give you this link that will provide you with a free premium account for one month. It allows you to do all classes on the platform. If you don’t like it on the platform and you cancel within this period, you pay nothing.
If however, you decide to stay, you can enjoy a whole year of the immense amount of classes. I also learned a lot about drawing, water colour, working with acrylic paint and Premiere Pro. There is a small award for me too: for anyone signing up via that link, I receive $10,- even if you don’t decide to stay.
If you only want to take my course, with this link, you only pay €13,- on Udemy until August 8th. Bargain!

“I Want to Take your Course, but I Really can’t Afford it Right Now”
If you really want to take the class, but have no spare money or no credit card that is necessary for a free Skillshare Premium Trial, you can send me an email (course at ziebinnenzijde.nl). In any case, put yourself on my list. Regularly, I give free access for a short period or to a few people. Although this is an income for me, I understand for many people this is a period with little leeway. I want to help as many people as I can by sharing my knowledge and experience.
